Furniture and décor brand Joss & Main partnered with Pinterest to create four static and two animated collages. Three creators curated Pinterest boards of products from Joss & Main’s Fall/Winter Edit in their own style, based on three style descriptors, and we used these to create the first three static collages. This set of three needed to have a cohesive layout while still having their own personality that fit each creator’s style. For the remaining collages, we were given free rein to pick from the Fall/Winter range to create one static and two animated assets.
Moodboarding

As a starting point, I pulled some references from the brand’s Fall/Winter lookbook, taking note of the colours, textures, and typographic treatments they used. This helped to inspire the backgrounds used and identify which products the brand tended to group together. Interior design magazines were also a key part of my research, as they often edit together products using collage-like techniques.

The Pinterest boards provided by the client and three creators made the moodboarding process a lot simpler, as a lot of the decision making had already been done. The challenge was to arrange these products in an artful way, as only minimal background elements were used to allow the products to shine.
Final Assets

For the three creator collages, I selected backgrounds that aligned with each curated set of products and reflected elements seen in Joss & Main’s Fall/Winter lookbook. The vertical pill shape in the background inspired by the brand’s visual identity acts as a connector, joining together the collection of items. A tab was added to the bottom left of each collage to call out the creator and reinforce the Fall/Winter campaign.

For the three remaining collages, we employed a different layout to distinguish these from the creator collages, while incorporating similar Fall/Winter colours and textures. The animated collages feature a simple motion style, inspired by the animation settings available in Pinterest’s in-app collage tool – best practice for these type of assets as it allows them to feel more at home on the platform.
